Morning Lead Teacher

Shannon studied Early Childhood Development and Education. She received her AMS Montessori Teacher Certification through Montessori Teacher Preparation of Washington in 2000.  She has also been certified in First Aid and CPR as well as completed Behavior De-escalation Training.

Shannon is a Seattle native and has been teaching at Montessori School of Seattle for over 15 years.  Shannon enjoys planning a classroom curriculum that provides a supportive environment and allows children to love exploration and learn new things. Shannon and her family have strong ties to the school. Not only is she a lead teacher, but both of her children have attended Montessori School of Seattle and St. Joseph's.  During school breaks she is a summer program teacher, helps run a local daycare, and cares for children at her home.

Outside the classroom, Shannon is a fitness enthusiast, enjoys supporting her children’s extra curricular interests, and spending time with her pets, family, and friends.

Afternoon Lead Teacher

Hayes Mott received her AMS training from the Montessori Education Institute in 2011 while interning at Montessori School of Seattle.

She began her teaching career at Washington Market School in New York City before returning to her home city, Seattle.  Hayes has been a lead teacher at MSS since 2014 but has been active with the school for 26 years (starting as a student)!

Outside the school, Hayes loves to waterski, read, and go out to a good dinner with friends.

Assistant Teacher

Valerie Spannaus earned her Montessori Assistant Teaching Certificate in 2012 from The Montessori Education Institute of the Pacific Northwest.

As a young girl, Val started her education as a Montessori student herself. Her son followed in her education footsteps and attended Montessori School of Seattle for his preschool education.

Val has served and volunteered on various boards in Seattle over the years where she was born and raised.  Outside of school she loves playing soccer and spending time with her family and friends.  Val is thrilled to be a part of this amazing community of inspiring students and teachers!
